SCHOLARSHIP OPENS UP FOR KENHARDT STUDENTS

September 2024.

The Globeleq Scholarship Fund (GSF) has opened applications for the 2025 academic year, dedicated exclusively to supporting Black youth from the Kenhardt community near Aries Solar Power in the Kai !Garib Municipal area. Focused on empowering local students, the Fund aims to provide financial assistance for tertiary education, enabling young people to seize opportunities to further their studies and, in turn, strengthen the skills pool within their community.

Since its inception, the GSF has been a pivotal resource for students from the Kenhardt area, investing in their educational journeys and helping to shape a brighter future for local families.

“This scholarship fund addresses critical needs by supporting 100% Black youth, primarily in the local community, and plays a significant role in contributing to the country’s transformation agenda,” says Hlengiwe Radebe, Economic Development Director for Globeleq South Africa Management Services and Aries Solar Power.

Students from within local communities in the Northern Cape can apply to one of three categories, all funded directly by Aries Solar Power. The GSF Engineering Sciences bursary, open to all students nationwide, pursuing an engineering-related qualification full-time in 2025; the GSF Other Sciences bursary, available to students from (born or living in) the Northern Cape province pursuing one of the following qualifications full-time in 2025: Education (Mathematics and Science), Agriculture, Nursing; and the GSF Communities bursary, which supports students living in communities within 50km of the solar plant, pursuing any tertiary qualification in 2025.

Since 2014, the Fund has awarded over R24 million in bursaries, benefiting almost 500 students across all nine provinces. The GSF’s continued expansion reflects its growing impact on students from diverse backgrounds, many of whom come from outside the immediate areas of Globeleq’s power plants.

Note: Applications for the 2025 academic year are open until 31 October 2024. Students interested in applying can visit http://globeleq.auraams.app/ for more information.
